Surroundings

Meda de Mouros is a simple Portuguese village, sort of in the middle of nowhere, 2 little shops that also function as bars, a bakery, a church, a footballfield and an olive-oilmill, and of course the river Alva, pure mountainwater.

Other villages

On Thursday there is the Feira, the market in Arganil, a nice little town. Other bigger villages are Tábua and Oliveira do Hospital, the beginning of the Serra da Estrela.

Interesting places

Interesting places nearby are Piódão, the slate village, Buçaco, the palace and forest, Coimbra, the old university town and Viseu, the home of the Portuguese painter Grão Vasco.

Restaurants

Most restaurants serve good Portuguese food, some serve Italian and some fusion like the poussadas and Quinta da Geia in Aldeia das Dez, about 20 km away.

Mountains and beaches

The Serras, mountain areas, are very good for walks. Beaches at the Atlantic Ocean are one and a half hour away, Praia de Mira , Tocha and Figueira da Foz.

Spain

Spain is one and a half hour to the east with wonderfull cities like Salamanca and Ciudad Rodrigo.
